Also, your horse has to get feed with a good horse nutrition adapted to its breed in order to be healthy. The first step is selecting the diet that is suitable for him. The right diet depends on the required nutrients of the particular category of horse.

Veterinarians and farmers combine these ingredients to come up with the required horse food nutrient content for that horse category. Of course, the horse owner has something to say on the ingredients. With the help of the farmer, the owner can select the right quantity of roughage for the horse.

A horse's basic nutrition diet must comprise pasture or any kind of harvested roughage. By playing up the distribution of roughage and its concentrates, it determines the energy intake and the digestive tract fill. It also minimizes dysfunctions in the digestive system. Plus, it regulates the horse's consumption of feeds.

The key in feeding horses is that , every day, they must be fed at least 1% of their total weight. This allows the horses to use up 2 to 2.5% of their body mass in the 24-hour interval.

The energy needs are lower than the stated figures when feeding adult horses. It could be done by feeding them with roughages that are of good-quality. Salt is the supplement needed in adult horses. Salt is a balanced mineral supplement.

Be attentive when feeding pregnant mares because their diet must be a combination of both roughages and concentrates. These are measured in the horse nutrition required amounts so that the mare can store up body fat which will be utilized for lactating and rebreeding.

The right horse nutrition nutrient needs when feeding growing horses must be obtained so that the pony can get to the optimum growth. This will result to a well-developed and well-structure development phase. There is less chance for growing horses to suffer orthopaedic diseases by providing them with a balanced diet.

For growing horses, a balanced diet is when all the nutrients are served in the required quantities making these relative to one another. Diets for growing horses needs to be balanced according to their energy utilization.

When feeding foals, you must give them the correct supplements before the weaning period. Some mares are poor milkers, therefore the foal will be ill with diseases. This is the time for the owner to take some actions in the foals' health.

The practice of horse nutrition using growth stimulants, antibiotics and additives are suppose to be helpful in the livestock business but there is few conducted research that says it has the same result on horses. According to some studies, horses benefit from these kinds of medicines - but they are only said to be of short-term only.
