Colorful balloons appearing on the clear azure sky makes us fantasize about an air balloon ride. An excellent adventure sport which doesn’t require a runway to take off and can be stored comfortably in your garage or your basement and has becomes very popular. So if you want to learn more on Air ballooning or Ballooning rides then read on.

The hot air ballooning gear is made up of light weight basket acting as the compartment for the passengers, a colorful fabric envelop for containing the hot air and a burner or some kind of a fuel system which can help in producing hot air needed for the flight. Helium, ammonia or hydrogen can be used as a fuel. When the balloon pilot heats the inside air it becomes more dense and lighter then the outside air causes the balloon to rise. Hot air balloons by themselves are static and their movement and direction is governed by the air mass. The pilot navigating the balloon ride has the control to change the altitude or direction of the balloon to align it in the direction of the air mass. To descend the pilots cut down the fuel supply, cooling the inside air so that the balloon becomes heavier and descends.

The various factors which need to be taken into account before planning an air ballooning expedition is the weather especially the wind. The ideal weather favoring balloon rides is a clear sky with moderate temperature, wind speed lesser than 8 miles per hour and high pressure. Terrain also plays an important part while planning a balloon ride as balloonist usually look for calm wind condition at least on the surface. With the increase in altitude the ballooning requires higher wind speeds which can provide some steerage to the balloon. Also the ideal time for ballooning is early morning or two to three hours before the sunset when the weather is calmest and there is no thermals development.

The entire balloon ride is tracked by the chase crew. The chase crew members with the help of radio sets tracks the ballooning team to the landing site and help them with the equipment pack up or help them during the time of emergencies.

So before setting out on hot air ballooning, it is essential to call up the local flight service station and take and update about the weather condition. Alternatively a pilot balloon should be sent up to check the air pressure and speed & direction of the wind. So gear yourself up for a wonderful flight of fantasy using an air balloon ride.
