Being A Motivational Speaker

By: david

Know when to walk away, but never run.....the successful motivational speaker knows all about delivery: silence, wait time, pregnant pauses and engagement. So does the successful teacher and coach. The skills needed by each are the same. They have the ability to focus on a plan and hold their listener's attention just long enough to get their messages across. Teachers, coaches and motivational speakers know that the timing of their speaking is every bit as important as the material about which they are speaking. These groups of professionals know when the time is right to deliver the message. The wrong time of the school year, the wrong time in the playing season or the missed focus of a conference can set the stage for the intended outcome to fail. Knowing the cards held by the students, players and attendees and what they bring to the table is essential for winning hands. Is their a unified purpose for those in attendance, (do they all want to win)? Do all members have clear expectations of the desired outcomes, (a full house is better than a pair of fours)? And most importantly, do the listeners care about the same things, (having a fun time and making money in the end)? Knowing the answers to these questions enables the expert motivational speaker, coach or teacher to prepare for a successful delivery of the message. By the same token, knowing the answers to these questions helps a coach, teacher or motivational speaker to know "when to fold 'em"! Speakers can drive a point over the edge, past the brink and into whatever mode! Dealing out the same message in the same way every time will in the end cause folks to throw in their hands. Re-inventing the way important messages are conveyed to groups is imperative if the hope is to ever have a winning hand. Sometimes moments of prepared silence can hit the mark of an intended point. Wait time between statements can lead the player to be ready to throw the trump card at any moment and pregnant pauses can definitely bluff the way to anticipation.

Expert motivational speakers, coaches and teachers always know when to "walk away" but they NEVER RUN! The experience of time spent with players, students and people of all ages enables them to understand what is at stake for individuals, as well as the whole group. This accumulated knowledge of understanding the players at any table assists them to be successful motivators in the game of life. This does not simply happen. It is studied, practiced and perfected. Not every hand is a winner, not every game is successful and not every presentation a royal flush. The expert motivational speaker, coach and teacher never runs from the challenge, never runs from the opportunity, never runs from the responsibility and never gives up. Coaches, teachers and motivational speakers are fueled by the passion of helping to bring players, students or conference attendees to be successful individuals and, therefore, successful team players.
