Creating box shots as well as ebook covers is now a no brainer.

By: Mathew Petrenko

Marketing experts realized a long time ago that packages matter. When you sell an e-book or a piece of software, you should obtain a cool package for it. Luckily, you do not have to pay for actual cartons or paper. Below you can see three possible methods to produce a virtual cover:

- Ordering it from somebody

- Drawing it yourself in Photoshop

- Using some dedicated software

The choice number one appears to be pretty straightforward. However, good designers charge good money. Each new boxshot or e-book cover will round up to $150. The second option might be the best if you are competent about Photoshop. Sure, the task will necessitate obtaining a few action scripts that could cost you another hundred. And do not forget the price of Photoshop, of course, which is about $700. The last choice is to try and choose from the dedicated boxshot software. Beginning from $15 you can obtain a product that will satisfy your needs. There are a lot of programs to choose from. If we group these offerings, we will have three types:

- Pre-made templates, no free rotation

- 3D with polygonal rendering

- Sophisticated 3D ray tracing soft

If you choose pre-made templates, your boxshots and e-book covers will look great, but the choice of modifications will be very small. Introducing big changes will not come easy to the software box or ebook cover. The second option gives you more settings, but the simplified model produces unnatural shadows. You will not require James Bond’s glasses to notice that the images look weak. The third choice does not suffer from such shortcomings. For each pixel the program calculates millions of rays, determines shadows, glitter and other fx stuff. The resulting image will look very impressive. The third kind is the best if you want to achieve some flexibility in developing your boxshot software. A great example of such software is Box Shot 3D. This soft costs 40 euros. It allows the creation of software boxes, ebook covers, virtual CD/DVD boxes, VIP cards and other cool things. See for your self some pics of ebook covers and software boxes. It will take you quite a bit of work to achieve equal level of quality in Photoshop even if you possess the necessary scripts. There are not so lots of solutions that can produce a similar result. The room for creativity is nearly absolute, change whatever you wish. No software box or ebook cover should be created without Box Shot 3D. It will give your product a very cool wrapping. And appropriate packages can even increase sales. I am sure that Box Shot 3D is the right choice for you.
