Okay, you enjoy dating, but you dont enjoy finding someone to date. Your job keeps you extremely busy, youre new in town, or youre tired of bars and clubs. Youve considered online dating, but arent sure if its safe. In addition, there are a lot of online dating websites out there. How does one choose? Besides, were not just talking about ordering some jeans, here. Were talking about feelings, goals and dreams. How is it possible to filter through all the sites and find the one person compatible with your lifestyle? What about computer viruses, and identity theft, and the risk of revealing personal information to a virtual stranger? These are good and valid questions. The Internet is awash with spam, viruses, unsavory persons waiting to take advantage of someone, and the nuisance of spam. Avoiding these takes some time and research. Check out the sites that interest you by reading their mission statements, understanding their privacy policies and getting familiar search procedures. Dont be afraid to ask for what you want. If you want only to date people from Texas, say so. If youre a vegetarian and cant stand the sight of red meat, put it down. If you love the water and want someone who enjoys sailing, specify that. Not only do keywords and specific searches get you closer to a person thats compatible to you, but it cuts down the number of hits youll get on your search. Millions of people use the Internet every day, and a large portion of them are single and searching. If you dont specify what you want, youre likely to end up with more hits on your search than you have time to weed through. Thats no help. If you prefer to date blacks, say so. If you want to find someone with the same level of education, put it down. Consider your own characteristics and which of those would be deal breakers. Sure, opposites attract, and can make for an intense and passionate relationship. Understand that those differences between you will always be there. What seem sexy and attractive when you first meet could become bothersome years down the road. Consider the woman who married an American of Japanese descent. He was born and raised in the United States as she was, so she assumed they would have no problems. However, cultural differences did arise, small things such as his family eating rice with every meal. This woman was a meat and potatoes girl, who normally ate cold cereal for breakfast. Rice at every meal was just more than she could bear. For instance, a woman I know married a man of Japanese American descent. Since they were both born and raised in the United States, she assumed they were on the same page. After a time, the cultural differences began to become a source of conflict. The key is to be completely honest with yourself. Consider the following couple: each was from a different religious background. Their friends and family worried they wouldnt last, that their religious differences would cause strife. This couple has been married for over 20 years, and is very happy. They knew the possible difficulties when they went in, and faced them. Consider another couple, of the same religion. They assumed their religion wouldnt be a problem, but their marriage didnt last, because she was devoted to her faith and he wasnt. The myriad of online dating sites offer a wide range of memberships and methods. One way to narrow your search from the beginning is to search only those sites with your main requirement. As mentioned above, if you only want to date blacks, searching a black online dating site is a first step in narrowing your search. From there, simply determine what characteristics and traits are the most important and search using those keywords.
