The original film National Treasure was released in 2004 and was a smash hit! When it was announced a sequel was in the works, many wondered if it could live up to the first film. Film goers have been pleasantly surprised; National Treasure: Book of Secrets (also called National Treasure 2) delighted viewers and film critics alike. Filled with more action than you can imagine, this film which runs 2 hour and five minutes, will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. From the beginning of the film until the final credits roll, viewers are taken on a globe-trotting romp. Partly based on actual history, the film is also party myth and part mystery. That combination produces intrigue, hi-jinx and a great deal of fun which is suitable for the entire family. A globe-trotting, treasure-hunting Ben Gates is back. Gates is played magnificently by Oscar-winning Best Actor, Nicholas Cage who reprises the role. The film finds Gates on a quest to find the Lost City of Gold. The adrenaline-pumping caper takes Ben and his band of fellow-travelers from Washington D.C. to Paris to London and back again! Shot on location, the film shows off Washington and the European cities at their absolute best. Ben Gates is not alone on his journey; he is accompanied by Patrick Gates, his father. Played by fellow Best Actor Oscar-winner, Jon Voight, Patrick is also a spirited adventurer-at-heart and eagerly participates to help Ben search for the Lost City. The onscreen chemistry between Cage and Voight is evident and endearing. Nicholas Cage is not the only Best Actor Oscar-winner in the film; he is joined by the equally talented Jon Voight, who plays his Dad, Patrick. Patrick is an intellectual and a bit whimsical. He enjoys treasure-hunting and is delighted to join his son on this romp. Bens mom is played by Oscar-winning Best Actress, Helen Mirren. As always, Mirren is superb as Dr. Emily Appleton. Mix real history with myth and a ton of mystery and you get National Treasure: Book of Secrets. The combination of these elements makes the film entertaining on every level. The plot involves Ben Gates (Nicholas Cage) searching the world to find the Lost City of Gold. Viewers get to enjoy this romp right along with Gates. After traversing across Europe, Ben discovers the final clue. Heres the catch, though, in order for the clue to be revealed Ben must kidnap a prominent member of the U.S. government. This is a plot twist that adds a great deal of excitement to the film. Aided by his fellow-travelers, Mom, Dad and Abigail, Ben must make a life-changing decision. The film, which is rated PG for some violence, is a great family film, for certain. The kids will enjoy the high-flying adventure and the treasure hunt. This somewhat mythical mystery also has humor sprinkled throughout. The humor is clean, down-to-earth and basic enough for even younger family members to enjoy. Download Book of Secrets and spend an enjoyable evening with the family. Rated PG for some minor violence, the film is suitable for most everyone. Pop the popcorn and enjoy!
