By: Yolanda Torrisi

The mining industry in Asia is booming and has even further potential to improve in once-considered remote and too difficult locations. The surge in mining investment, improved communications within and outside Asia, better technology and more interaction with the west, The ASIA Miner links the world to Asia.

A way of facilitation further development of mining potential in the region is through information exchanges, like mining conferences.Giving industry an excellent review of mining in Asia and linking the world to Asia is XX Macao and ASIA Miner – the exploration exchange to be held in Macao on June 4 and 5, 2008. This will be an annual event for industry.

This event is co-hosted by The ASIA Miner, the Asia Pacific’s premier mining magazine and weekly news service to give the mining world a live forum of mining and exploration activities throughout Asia. It gives mining and supply companies the platform to meet and do business and gives the investment and financial community the ability to meet in one location to discuss new horizons.

The former Portuguese colony of Macao is a bridge between a booming China and the mining industry in the rest of the world, and particularly Portuguese-speaking, or Lusophone, countries. It is appropriate, therefore, that the XX Macao and ASIA Miner – the exploration exchange will be held in the thriving business centre of Macao on June 4 and 5, 2008. Just as Macao serves as an exchange between the east and the west, the XX Macao and ASIA Miner – the exploration exchange will focus on finding matches between mining possibilities and sources of financing in the region. It will feature a conference, exhibition, networking and private meetings. It is designed to be the communication centrepiece for mining, investment and supply companies as well as governments and industry associations in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Macao Special Administrative Region is playing a particularly effective role in facilitating mining cooperation between China and Lusophone Africa. This can be seen in economic terms. Trade between China and Portuguese-speaking countries worldwide soared by 35% from US$34 billion in 2006 to US$46.35 billion in 2007. Mining is playing an increasing role in trade as China seeks out more natural resources and the Lusophone Africa countries provide many possibilities.

In recent years Macao’s role as a service platform for economic and trade cooperation has become more discernable. The special administrative region has received various kinds of support and is recognized by Beijing as the bridge between China and Lusophone countries. The XX Macao and ASIA Miner – the exploration exchange is another example of the importance of Macao as a bridge. It will be held at The Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel and it will feature company and product presentations and include country overviews hosted by decision makers from some of the world’s most geologically rich areas. It will provide a live marketplace for investors and financiers, including banks, fund companies, stock exchanges and securities companies. The event will also provide the possibility of holding private meetings and networking functions.
