Skin Care's Big Three Products

By: Jenny Curran

Beginning with the right skin care routine can be a pain considering all of the treatment options, home skin care solutions and medical treatments. Depending on your situation, any number of routines might be best (each of which worthy of its own book at the very least). This piece is especially for those who are just getting serious about a daily skin care program and will focus on the three key ingredients which any skin treatment regimen should be built. The Big Three are skin cleanser, skin toner and moisturizers.

Skin Cleanser

Skin care treatments are available for every skin type you can think of and it's very easy to get lost in this "one step fix" or that "amazing ingredient". One thing that will remain consistent regardless of your skin's condition is that an effective cleanser is a must. These products are your first step in cleaning the skin and preparing it for a deep cleaning which is the next step. Keep in mind that not all skin cleansers are going to be as effective, especially when you take into account skin type. A heavy cream cleanser is not going to be a good idea if your skin is oily. A clay based cleanser may dry your skin out more since they can remove the skin's oil and hydration. The best skin cleanser will clean the skin without introducing imbalances.

Toners

Toner is also known as astringent. The main goal in using skin toner is to clear the skin more aggressively and helping to remove dead cells, makeup and debris that wasn't removed by your cleanser. Having this important weapon in your skin care collection can help you avoid breakouts and open up the skin so that it is better prepared to replenish and renourish with moisturizer. Be careful to remember however is that these products can be a bit more irritating on the skin than a cleanser. They also have the potential to make the skin dry and to irritate those who have sensitive skin. Choosing a skin care product is free from alcohol here is vitally important, especially for dry skin treatment or skin that suffers from quick irritation.

Using Moisturizers

The last key step of any skin careapproach is a great moisturizer. Top shelf skin moisturizers contain moisturizing and rejuvenating ingredients. Similar to skin cleansers and skin toner, moisturizer should be selected based on your actual skin type. Moisturizers are usually labeled by weight with the lightweight products usually containing less oil and elements that can feel "excessive" on the skin. As mentioned above a heavy moisturizer, which is great for those with dry skin, may not be wise to use on an oily complexion since this may simply aggravate the problem.

And there you have it, the three must have products for any good skin care treatment plan. Considering skin aging and whether or not you are having to manage certain skin conditions, other approaches may be necessary. If this is the case, be sure to talk with a dermatologist before applying any skin care products.
