When I was a little boy, I knew that I wanted to help people. I always came back to that same idea of being able to help people to feel better. I never thought of it in terms of "making" anybody better, although that is the language that teachers always used for healing. Of course, I now know that it has been my life-long desire to facilitate the healing process for people, but it wasn't as if those were words in my vocabulary back then, which was too bad. Because I didn't know any differently, I let people tell me that I wanted to go into the medical field, and I started to take a lot of math and science classes so that I could get into a good pre-med school for college. Of course, it probably does not come as any surprise that I got to school, took one look around and thought "this is NOT what I want to be doing," and turned around and left. I did odd jobs for a couple of years after that, mostly landscaping and handy-man type jobs until one of my clients mentioned that they were taking classes to get their hypnotherapy certification. Immediately, it was as if the proverbial light bulb sparked on right above my head. I started asking questions about what they were learning in their hypnotherapy training and realized that I had finally found what it was I had felt called to do so many years before. I looked around at a few different schools before I chose the one where I wanted to take classes. Hypnosis training might not be as codified as western medicine, but there are still professional standards that are being upheld. For people who wish to work professionally in the field, a 200-hour training program is an appropriate beginning. It is also advantageous to learn about several different healing modalities, so as to have a more holistic view of the workings of the human body and mind, as well as have different techniques available to you when helping clients. Now, when people ask me what I do for a living, I can finally say that I'm helping people. In actuality, what I do is quite simple: I help people to reach receptive states of mind in which they can release any old belief systems or thought patterns that are holding them back from making the changes they desire in their life. I can also do past life regression, which I learned in addition to my hypnotherapy training. Personally, the benefits I receive simply from having the knowledge of how to manifest in my life exactly what I want or need, have been immense. The relaxation techniques I picked up sure don't hurt either! I would recommend hypnotherapy training to anyone who has even considered this option. However you choose to use it, it can only benefit you throughout your life.
