The Best Way to Run a Herbalife Business

Five years ago my wife and I signed up for Herbalife. My wife was keen to find a new business opportunity and although I was skeptical, she talked me into it.

Now there are a number of ways to get into Herbalife, and having been in the business a few years, I feel that I am fairly well qualified to explain the best way depending on your circumstances.

The absolute easiest and cheapest way to enter the Herbalife business is to purchase the ShapeWorks Mini Business Pack. This costs about $105 and includes your registration, basic training materials and a canister of Formula 1 Nutritional Shake Mix (this alone normally costs $61.00).

The good thing about the Herbalife MLM is that there is absolutely no obligation to purchase products. There is no minimum monthly spend as is the case with many of these schemes.

Now if you are absolutely strapped for cash then the next item will be very useful to you. You don’t actually need to purchase any stock at all if you don’t want to! How is that possible. Well, here’s how it works. When you get an order for Herbalife products you can get payment and then have it shipped directly from the Herbalife website to the purchaser. This is in fact a much better way of doing it. When Herbalife ship an order they charge you for freight. If you then have to post the products again, then you have to charge the customer for postage, unless you absorb the cost yourself, and that is just cutting into your profits.

So if you have it shipped direct from Herbalife then you have total control over your inventory, which is none, you haven’t got any stock sitting on the shelf which may sit there for months or years and expire, and you are always ahead because you only purchase when you have received payment from the purchaser.

The next concept to grasp is Volume Points (VP). Each Herbalife product has a value in Volume Points. When you order so many volume points you move up the ladder. Apart from getting a new flashy title such as "Senior Consultant" it means your level of discount on the products increases and you make more profit.

To give you an idea, a basic Herbalife weight loss program would be worth about 100 volume points. When you sign up with Herbalife your basic discount level is 25%. To become a Senior Consultant, you need to either place a single order for 400 VP or a cumulative total of 800 VP in one month. This qualifies you to receive a minimum 30% discount from that point on, translating into a 30% profit.

There is one point of clarification needed here regarding the level of discount. The pricing on ay Herbalife product is based on the product price, plus a small percentage for shipping and handling and also freight. When you add those three items together you get your retail price. The shipping and handling and freight does not get discounted, only the product price. So if you work out the discount based on the full retail price (including everything) it will be a few percent off. The discount is only on the product price itself.

So by making more and more sales and accumulating VP and profit you can look at purchasing a Success Builder order. That’s 1000 VP worth of product which you get at 41% discount. So now you’ve jumped from 25% to 41%. The ultimate goal as far as retail is concerned is to get to Supervisor, where you are getting your products at 50% discount.

If you think it might be too hard to get 800 VP in one month then the next thing you need to know is that you can get your friends to help you. If you sign up a friend as a Herbalife Distributor, now his VP and your VP together are going towards your own VP for moving up the marketing chain. If you sign up two, then it’s all that much easier. And it’s a lot easier to sign people up when they understand that the business can be built up gradually, at no risk of loss.

Some Herbalife Distributors that are very "motivated" unfortunately sign people up and get them to purchase a Supervisor order (at about $6,000) which that person may or may not be able to sell. The hard sell approach in my opinion is wrong. That person may not have what it takes to move that product and may end up dumping it off on E,Bay at cost price or less just to get rid of it. I believe this is the reason that you get some people posting on Herbalife "hate" websites, because they have had this kind of experience.

Don’t get me wrong, if somebody wants to buy straight into Supervisor by purchasing 4,000 VP in one month or 2,500 VP in 2 consecutive months, that is their prerogative. We purchased the 2 month plan and moved that stock within 2 months. But only because my wife is trained in sales. It’s not for everybody.

In summary, if you want to sign up, get the basic Herbalife Business International Business Pack and thoroughly read the material and the marketing plan so you understand the best way to move forward. The products are high quality; Herbalife have a very good reputation; and mainly, the weight loss programs work. So, don’t get railroaded into a large stock purchase. You don’t have to do that and many people, looking for additional income, wouldn’t be able to afford it anyway. Good Luck!
